Uncommon Grounds: Guerreiro do Divino Amor with Pallavi Paul - The Miracle of Helvetia
Doors 7:30 pm / start 8:30 pm
On this occasion Guerreiro Do Divino Amor (Visual Arts Fellow 2021) shows the premier of his new video work The Miracle of Helvetia; followed by a conversation between him, one of the protagonists Ventura Profana and 2021 Fellow artist and filmmaker Pallavi Paul, who contributed the preface for the accompanying publication with the same title.
Chapter Six of the Superfictional World Atlas, The Miracle of Helvetia, explores Switzerland as a superfictional ideal of beauty, richness, and perfection, an embodiment of the pinnacle of civilization – set in Switzerland, a country that Guerreiro do Divino Amor (Fellow 2021) has an intimate but conflicted connection with on account of being half Swiss himself. The ‘super fictional’ World Atlas that Divino Amor has spun over the years is not just an effort to implicate various locations such as Brazil, Brussels, and Switzerland into the larger story of colonialism, extractivism, political corruption and spiritual dereliction – but it is also a formal strategy to de-territorialize, critique and foundationally interrogate the shape of the world as we know it.
Start 8:30 pm. Before and after the event, works by Shadi Habib Allah, Pallavi Paul (Nayi Kheti/New Harvest, 2013), Alicja Rogalska (Dark Fibres, 2021) are on view at the daadgalerie. Therefore, the doors already open at 7:30 pm.
