With works by Salomé Jashi

A new documentary film by Salomé Jashi to be released in 2021 portrays a capricious pursuit of Bidzina Ivanishvili, a wealthy man and former prime minister of Georgia who still rules the country from the shadows: he collects century-old trees as tall as ten-floor buildings.

His men have to uproot the trees in the countryside and transport them to his private garden. The route to the garden passes through villages, forests and the Black Sea.

Alongside the film, which is currently in post-production, Salomé Jashi has developed a presentation as part of “The Fingers of the Air” at the daadgalerie in collaboration with soundscape composer Diane Barbé and curator and artist Celia Stroom. “Vanity by the Sea” explores Jashi’s video material in a surrealist and multisensory setting, exposing a new-world order where reality is turned upside down, where nothing is stable and predictable.

Salomé Jashi is guest of the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program 2020.
