With Lana Bastašić

Lana Bastašić (Fellow Literature 2023) in conversation with translator Rebekka Zeinzinger

Yugoslavian lullabies, rhymes of wisdom from grandma’s kitchen, and child narrators who take everything at face value—in Lana Bastašić’s new short story collection Mann im Mond (S. Fischer, 2023; orig. Mliječni zubi; Eng.: baby teeth), children are the main protagonists, which presented the German translator of the volume with a number of challenges. Rebekka Zeinzinger describes the headaches and creative flashes of inspiration she experienced while translating the stories from Bosnian and speaks with the author about the process of creating the book and their collaboration, as well as asks her about her personal experiences as a translator of her own and other texts.

Free Admission. Reading and talk in English
