Performance by Boji

Based on a sentimental story of seeing a canary bird fly out of a window during childhood, Boji’s performance features a mix of field recordings, blasting dance music and raw inhaled vocals, presenting music from released and forthcoming albums, and incorporating contributions from the kvirtet collective. CHASING, CHASING, CHASING, CHASING is a reflection on the pursuit of the unknown future, the processing of personal traumas of loss and the re-establishment of self.

Originally from Kyiv, Boji is a queer multimedia artist, musician and co-founder of the experimental collective Kvirtet. Since 2017, Boji has been working on new Ukrainian experimental music, incorporating elements of folk, queer synth-pop, field recordings, and raw vocals. In their artistic practice, Boji explores different mediums: video art, installation, and performance. After relocating from Ukraine to Berlin in 2022-2023, Boji created the Ukrainian album, СУБВЕРСИВНІ ВИСЄРИ / SUBVERSIVE SHIT TALK.

Boji performed at Tranzit Gallery during Kyiv Biennale in Vienna, Meetfactory in Prague, Bio Paradis during the Sequences Art Festival in Reykjavik, as well as at Cashmere Radio, Neue Nationalgalerie, and other iconic local Kyiv locations like Closer, Otel, and Izone. Additionally, they co-created Kvirtet collective performances, such as “Sweaty Palms” at Schloss Biesdorf castle in Berlin, “One by One” at Oude Kerk in Amsterdam, and “Filling the Seams Between the White Tiles” at Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart. They also performed “They Want More” at Sophiensaele during Dragana Bar in Berlin.
