With Burak Çevik

On July 12, Turkish filmmaker and DAAD fellow Burak Çevik presents his first feature film The Pillar of Salt (Tuzdan Kaide, 2018) at Kino Arsenal. The film tells a bewildering and mythically enigmatic story about a pregnant woman. Her search for her missing sister leads through enchanting and strange landscapes on a journey marked by unforgettable scenes. But a plot summary hardly does justice to the charm, richness, and radicalism of Çevik’s film: all his works go to the core of cinema, representation itself. Screened afterward as Director’s Choice is Tekerleme (Tongue twister, 1985), one of director and dffb graduate Merlyn Solakhan’s first films. Solakhan’s bold aesthetic has had a significant impact on Çevik’s films. Burak Çevik will be in attendance.

Burak Çevik is film fellow of the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program in 2022.
