11.07.2025 / 19:00 – 21:00

with Maria Stepanova, Sasha Dugdale und Eugene Ostashevsky

A reading of translations and responses to Maria Stepanova’s Holy Winter, a book-length poem in many voices about life in the political permafrost.  Composed in Russian during the pandemic lockdowns of 2020-2021, Holy Winter today resonates with an additional urgency. It has been translated into English by Sasha Dugdale (Bloodaxe and New Directions, 2024) and the sections of the poem concerning the exile of Ovid have been paraphrased by Eugene Ostashevsky (Ovid Void, World Poetry Books 2025). The poets will discuss the project, and read excerpts from it as well as new poems. In English.
