On the occasion of the exhibition Here on the Edge of the Sea We Sit by Taiwanese artist Ting-Jung Chen, the dialogue between space, body and the sound of political speeches will be explored in a performance. Dancer Yi-Wie Tien and musician Rabih Beaini will interact in real time with the multi-channel installation and sculptural objects, creating an open soundscape in the space.
Yi-Wei Tien moves through the exhibition space and uses gestures and body movements to activate a monitoring system that generates sounds. These algorithmically generated sounds are not only played in real time in the room but also looped to Rabih Beaini’s console. Together with excerpts from political speeches, they serve as source material for new musical sequences that are further developed and transformed. The superimposition of these two sound structures creates a unique acoustic shift – an alternative feedback that generates a multi-layered echo in the room.
