OPEN STUDIOS

11.09.2026 - 12.09.2026
With Ciwas Tahos, Isola Tong, The Fire Theory

In September, three fellows of the 2026 DAAD Artistis-in-Berlin Program will invite the public into their studios and workspaces in Berlin, offering insights into their artistic processes, their ongoing research projects, and their current works.

Ciwas Tahos
On 11 September 2026, 6–10pm, Ciwas Tahos opens her studio at Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Kottbusser Straße 10, 10999 Berlin, Studio 301 (3rd Floor). The Open Studio offers a chance to meet the artist and experience her deeply researched practice in process, with first glimpses of newly expanded ongoing projects developed as part of their DAAD fellowship and time in Berlin.

Isola Tong: Limbed and Limned Irreversibly
On 12 September 2026, 3–7pm, Isola Tong opens her studio at Bundesplatz 17, 10715 Berlin, presenting prototypes and recent work that traces transformations from bark to pigment, basketry to painting, calligraphy to sculpture, and wind to thought. Drawing on her engagements with Indigenous Austronesian and Pacific cultures, Tong reflects on how disasters shape ways of living and thinking and asks what belonging and possession might mean for bodies that are not permanent. The Open Studio is moderated by Renan Laru-an and culminates in a conversation with the artist at 5:30pm.

The Fire Theory: Mi Casa No Es Su Casa
The Fire Theory presents Mi Casa No Es Su Casa, an exhibition at Grainauer Straße 19, 10777 Berlin, open by appointment. Inspired by Eduardo Chang’s Residente permanente por vínculo (2009), the exhibition explores the contradictions of borders, migration, displacement, and transterritoriality. Bringing together works by Eduardo Chang, Lucy Tomasino, Gerardo Gómez, José Cabezas, Lissania Vatra, Josefina Paz, Antonio Romero, Danny Zavaleta, Verónica Vides, Víctor Cruz & Hugo Portillo, the exhibition moves between documentary, metaphorical, and poetic approaches to the collective and intimate realities of Salvadoran migration. Appointments can be made at thefiretheory(at)gmail.com or +49 171 4717 408.
