27.08.2026 / 19:00 – 21:00
With Nastaran Makaremi

Together with Weiter Schreiben and Sujet Verlag, we are celebrating the launch of Nastaran Makaremi’s first novel in German, translated by Bianca Gackstatter.

In TOTAL, Nastaran Makaremi (Fellow 2025) paints a multi-layered literary panorama of power, resources and the traces that economic interests leave behind in societies. The novel moves between the past and the present, linking individual experiences with broader historical and political contexts. This creates a dense web of memories, myth and reality, in which questions of exploitation, responsibility and resistance are constantly being raised anew.

The discussion will be led by Ali Abdollahi.

Ali Abdollahi, born in 1968 in Birjand, Iran, now lives in Berlin as a poet, translator and literary critic. In Iran, he has published seven collections of poetry and anthologies of German-language poetry and prose. Abdollahi translates the works of Friedrich Nietzsche, Rainer Maria Rilke, Franz Kafka, Bertolt Brecht, Kurt Tucholsky, Elias Canetti, Robert Musil and Martin Heidegger, and is a member of the Iranian Writers’ Association. In 2021, his poetry collection Wetterumschlag was published by Secession Verlag, as was the anthology of Persian-language poetry Ein Dieb im Dunkeln starrt auf ein Gemälde, which he edited together with Kurt Scharf.
