With Khabat Abas
Partitur is the first international exhibition dedicated to Danish composer and sound artist Else Marie Pade (1924–2016), a path-maker of musique concrète and European electronic music. The exhibition unfolds as an immersive listening space, shaped by the spatial structures of her scores and the language she reimagined for electronic composition.
Accompanied by a live program that engages with, and extends on Pade’s legacy, two live concerts (Mon, 23.03.26, 7:00–8:00 pm and 9:00–10:00 pm) by cellist Khabat Abas will take place within the framework of MaerzMusik 2026. We are looking forward to welcoming Khabat Abas as a Music & Sound Fellow of the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program from May and warmly recommend this preview into her multifaceted practice.
Working across music, sound, and performance, Abas investigates time, space, and memory through everyday sounds, music, and noise. Moving beyond traditional norms, the Kurdistan-Iraqi artist crafts cellos from diverse materials, composes and improvises, and incorporates her body into performance. Through musical improvisation, her exercises of echoes and resistance trace a path toward acoustic exploration. Delving into how we experience sound, particularly across different geopolitical contexts, Abas seeks to intersect political realities with personal expression, challenging established systems of value, discipline, and control. In this 30-minute live performance, experimentation becomes an act of resistance, and listening transforms into a shared experience of imagination.
