19.06.2025 / 16:00 – 17:30
With Agustín Genoud, Jay Afrisando

On 19 June, daadgalerie will host a presentation, a drawing exhibition, a screening of bedtime noise story videos, and participatory activities as the culmination of the Sound and Stories project led by Jay Afrisando (music & sound fellow 2024-25). This event is suitable for children, parents, and an audience of all ages.

Collaborating with students from Nürtingen-Grundschule Kreuzberg class 456A (students of Wiebke Janzen) and students from Willkommensschule WiKo TXL P10 (students of Tiantian Wang, Carola Drees, and Shorena Ghonghadze), Jay Afrisando conducted workshops for elementary school students showcasing story, sound, and everyday experiences as sources of creativity.

The project was designed in a participatory way; the students contributed and developed ideas, which were integrated into the concept and further used in the subsequent workshop sessions. The students’ drawings will even serve as materials for an upcoming album by Jay Afrisando and Agustín Genoud (music & sound fellow 2024). Genoud joined Jay Afrisando at the second workshop session to experiment with sounds with the students from both schools. He will also join Afrisando and the students on stage on June 19.

In this project, Jay Afrisando also collaborated with writer Terry Perdanawati, graphic illustrators Cahya Haniva Yunizar and Amalia Firdausya Yunizar, and a cultural agent, Carsten Cremer. This is the second collaboration between the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program and both schools.

This event is partly supported by the University of California, Santa Cruz.
