With Hira Nabi

In her lecture performance How to Love a Tree, Hira Nabi weaves together a series of narratives from the multi-worlds of declining forests surrounding tourist resort towns that were once colonial hill stations. She shares her experiences of these sylvan landscapes, misty mountain sides, timely and out of time seasons, encounters with ghosts of extraction and British imperialism, inviting the audience into forest time, and towards inhabiting multiple temporalities at once.

Following the lecture performance Hira Nabi will be in coversation with Melanie Roumiguière.

How to Love a Tree (2019 – ongoing) is a long-term project thinking with trees, disappearance, extinction, extraction, survival, love, care, life and decay. The project consists of multiple chapters including expanded video installations, text, performance, printmaking, cyanotype, and rubbings.

Hira Nabi is a 2025/26 fellow of the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program.
