Laboratory for Research in Resonance and Expression of Nature
Talk with Ariel Guzik / Concert with Ariel Guzik, Sarmen Almond (Fellow 2026), and Sofia Escamilla

This talk will examine the work of artist and researcher Ariel Guzik and his interdisciplinary team, whose instrument-machines explore non-invasive forms of communication with marine animals through sound, resonance, and environmental interaction. Situated at the intersection of art, science, technology, and ecology, these devices challenge conventional approaches to human–animal relations by proposing alternative modes of encounter based on attentiveness rather than extraction or control. Rather than seeking to decode animal behavior, Guzik’s work invites reflection on the possibility of interspecies communication as an ethical and aesthetic practice.

Guzik’s presentation will highlight the relevance of this research in contemporary debates on marine conservation and environmental responsibility. Through an analysis of selected projects and their conceptual foundations, he will discuss how artistic research can foster new forms of ecological awareness by encouraging audiences to reconsider humanity’s relationship with marine ecosystems. The instrument-machines function not only as technological artifacts but also as mediators that create spaces for listening, observation, and coexistence.

After the talk, Ariel will be joined by Sarmen Almond (voice) and Sofia Escamilla (cello) for a concert.

Ariel Guzik is a mexican artist, musician, researcher, iridologist, herbalist and inventor, and director of the Nature Expression and Resonance Research Laboratory, which explores the phenomena of resonance, mechanics, electricity, and magnetism as a basis for the invention of mechanisms which give voice to nature through music. His research reflects an intimate need to generate an atmosphere that fosters to the re-enchantment of the world, seeking to preserve the mystery rather than decipher it. For the last fifteen years, Guzik has concentrated his efforts in searching for a way of communicating with cetaceans.
