DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program alumna and Pulitzer Prize winner Cristina Rivera Garza will open the 25th international literature festival on September 11, with a promise: “When we read, we breathe together. A festival, in this sense, is a gust of wind—the very thing we need most in these suffocating times.” Artists’ Program music alumna Susie Ibarra will provide the evening’s musical accompaniment. For its 25th anniversary, the festival presents a distinguished lineup of Artists-in-Berlin Program fellows and alumni: Svetlana Alexievich, Taqi Akhlaqi, Mariana Castillo Delball, Julia Cimafiejeva, Georgi Gospodinov, Volha Hapeyeva, Francesca Melandri, Samantha Schweblin, Geetanjali Shree, Serjih Zhadan, ICORN alumna Olga Bubich, and arts and media fellow Tsitsi Dangarembga.
