Cabildo

Mica Cabildo is a Filipina visual artist and graphic designer based in Metro Manila, Philippines. Since 2014 she has collaborated with scientists and indigenous communities to explore disaster, tropicality, and adaptation through residencies, fieldwork, and ethnographic immersion. Her practice includes site-specific installations, alternative photographic processes, graphic printmaking, audio production, and creative technologies such as AR, VR, and web-based storytelling.

Her recent projects investigate urgent local ecological concerns with planetary impacts: island evolution, biodiversity and endemism; maritime cooperation and disputes affecting marine ecosystems; indigenous forest guards confronting urban encroachment on tropical rainforests; and volcanic eruptions and their global cooling effects. Her current projects We Shall Meet at the Mouth of the Volcano and Unidentified Tropical Event explore planetary coevolution among cultures shaped by disaster, as well as weather magic, alchemy, and cosmogony during the volcanically driven Little Ice Age.

She has held residencies at Akademie Schloss Solitude, Sapporo Tenjinyama Art Studio, Akiyoshidai International Art Village, Gasworks London, and Pier-2 Art Center Kaohsiung. Her work has been supported by the Prince Claus Fund and Goethe-Institut’s Cultural and Artistic Responses to Environmental Change programme, the British Council’s UK–East Asia Connections Through Culture, and Gwaertler Stiftung.
