Performance at the opening of
"Hyper Cities / Über Städte"

an exhibition of the DAAD in cooperation with the Museum für Asiatische Kunst, Berlin
Opening: Sept. 6, 2007, at 7 pm
Liza Lim 'Wild winged-one' (2007, UA)
-trumpet aria from Scene 3 of "The Navigator opera" with text by Patricia Sykes.

Composed as part of the DAAD artist-in-residence-program Berlin.
duration: 8 minutes

'wild winged-one' is one of the many names for Eros, the Ancient Greek divinity of desire.
The piece forms a part of the opera 'The Navigator' where it is associated with the figure of 'The Angel of History'. In the opera, the Angel remains trapped with wings outspread, feathers quivering and is
only able to open up its gaze to a series of 'landscapes of desire'.

The trumpet solo contains fragments of the opera libretto from the last part of Scene 3 (Annihilation).

the comet in its coma
sings of the erotic bathings
of a man inside a woman
inside a man who makes love
with water, sings of a woman
inside a man inside a woman
who makes love with a comet
sings of a comet inside a glacier
inside an engine whose twin aortas
deliver blood-rain or tide-blood
sings of a doubt so cold
it breeds ice
