Georges Adeagbo, from Benin, achieved early recognition in Jan Hoet’s documenta IX. His work is characterized by the accumulation and arrangement of objects found and collected in everyday life. Recently he has put his ideas together into object boxes, show-cases which form their own room, in which rich associations appear in collective form. The issues he addresses concern the different cultural characteristics and features between his home in Africa, colonial influences from France and his nomadic existence between these worlds.

Georges Adéagbo was born in 1942 in Cotonou, Benin, and is considered as one of the most important African artist since he was awarded a prize of the 1999 Venice Biennial’s Jury his participation at documenta 11.
