In both his Feature films, Angolan-Portuguese filmmaker João Viana (b.*1966), focuses on the impacts of colonial history on the present day in post-colonial Africa.
A Batalha de Tabatô (The Battle of Tabatô, 2013) combines documentary elements with poetic devices to form a poignant story about the ghosts of the former civil war in Guinea Bissau. With magnificent visual compositions in black and white and red, Our Madness (2018) revolves around the effects of the past on present-day Mozambique.
