Along with the Freie Universität Berlin, the Institute for Theater Studies, and the Akademie der Künste (Academy of Arts) the DAAD has arranged the Valeska Gert Guest Professorship.
The guest professor conduces the theory and thereby the mediation and critical reflection of new developments in dance/performance and choreography, as well as the impact of media on art and culture, with an emphasis on connecting theory and practice.
The first guest professor in the 2007 summer semester will be Michael Laub (Belgium). The professorship is dedicated to the Berlin dancer, cabaret artist and actress Valeska Gert (18921978). Being one of the most innovative figures of avant-garde dance, her name stands for an aesthetically and politically ambitious programme. Her choreographies are based on new concepts of the female body and integrate movement, film and performance in an original and critical way.
