Edgard Varèse Guest Professorship for Computer Music
The individual fields of the Berliner Künstlerprogramm have been in contact with Berlin universities about guest professorships in order to achieve more transparency and support in the entire field of culture.
For this reason the DAAD has, in conjunction with the Technical University Berlin and the Sender Freies Berlin, established An Edgard Varèse Guest Professorship in the Technical University Berlin. This guest professorship serves in the maintaining of connections and in the critical reflection of new developments in the changing relationship between media technology and art, and between electronic studio and music. The guest professor should point out to students of communication and musical science, as well as to other interested parties, all relevant Veranstaltungen in this area. Above all the professor should, with support from the TU, the DAAD, and the Radio Berlin-Brandenburg (former Sender Freies Berlin) establish universal and public Veranstaltungen, maintain and build connections between the Studio for Electronic Music and other related areas, as well as seeking and maintaining the contact and co-operation with artists in Berlin and with the guests of the Berliner Künstlerprogramm and between all the disciplines.
The patron of the guest professorship is the American composer and pioneer of avant garde music, Edgard Varèse, who was one of the earliest advocates to experiment with electronic music.
